Jailers logo.png Sniper Polina is a prison guard specializing in long-range combat. She is armed with a bolt-action sniper rifle, and dressed in a khaki long sleeve prison guard uniform with a black tie, black pants, brown belt with a yellow buckle, and a black prison guard's cap.

Military logo.png Polina is Polina's first exclusive skin. She is armed with a decorated red and yellow bolt-action sniper rifle, and dressed in brown body armor, a green camo long sleeve shirt, green camo pants, a brown belt, and a green camo viper hood. She wears a pair of military sunglasses and carries a blue backpack with a yellow insignia.

Marines logo.png Navy Polina is Polina's second exclusive skin. She is armed with a black bolt-action sniper rifle with a muzzle break, and dressed in black body armor, an urban camo long sleeve shirt with a blue insignia, urban camo pants, and an urban camo cap. She carries an urban camo backpack.

Mechanic logo.png Nomad Polina is Polina's third exclusive skin. She is armed with a gray and blue-streaked bolt-action sniper rifle, and dressed in a dark blue bikini top, low rise mini jean shorts, tights, a brown mechanic's belt with a pouch and a pair of tools, white hand wraps, and a gray and blue cap with a white and red logo. Her hair is now black and kept in a ponytail.

She can be unlocked for 2,500 coins after reaching player level 8.

Overview

Polina is a Sniper, and has slightly above average damage for her class. All her other stats are typical for snipers, with the exception of abnormally low movement speed.

Polina wields a scopeless bolt-action police rifle. She fires up to 5 shots at a slow speed, before doing a quick reload. If approached suddenly or without ammo, she does a quick melee attack.

Polina's accuracy is near perfect. Some time after dying, she turns into a Girl.

Special Ability

Sniper Polina's special ability allows her attacks to ignore 40% of an enemy's bullet resistance. This will addictively stack with any other similar effect, such as Tactical set's bonus.

The end result is applied multiplicatively. Without any other bonuses to her ability, a target that has 90% bullet resistance will have 54% resistance, and a target that has 100% resistance like Turbo/Double-headed Zombie would only have 60%. This ability can damage Paramedic even when he is charged, but cannot harm Boss or Egg in their invulnerable state.

While this ability doesn't address some of Polina's general downsides, it vastly improves her performance by allowing her to effectively deal with certain threats that otherwise act as her counters. This is best demonstrated in Skirmish, where maxed out Polina becomes able to take on units with bullet resistance, and prevent them from easily reaching her. If you are actively using Polina in that mode, there's no reason to skip this special.

Gameplay

Main Campaign

Like all Snipers, Polina is useful for picking off weak enemies one by one. She can provide long-range support for melee units and extra damage support for other rangers. Her high damage also makes her very effective at slowly chipping away at the health of stronger, tougher enemies from afar, such as Rams and One-armed Soldiers.

Unfortunately for Polina, she possesses some major flaws that severely cripple her: slow movement speed and very long preparation time. Due to this, she is only useful on missions which might take long time to finish, so she can at least slightly speed up the completion and provide high damage against certain enemies clogging up the fight. While she only takes five seconds longer to prepare than most shooters, her damage output can often feel inadequate for the time it took to send her out.

However, Polina can become an extremely useful damage dealer as long as she's given the right equipment and a good item set. As her damage can ramp up to monstrously powerful levels. See the "Item Sets" section below.

Skirmish

In League, Polina proves to be one of the very best units in the mode, as she can stay behind her team and provide major support with high damage picks against vulnerable enemies. Very often, she is the last survivor standing by the end of the battle. Polina's special ability can usually get her out of many unfavorable situations as her ability can easily dispatch enemy units with bullet resistance in just a few shots. Even Turbo, the only unit with full resistance against bullets, isn't safe.

While armor penetration makes Polina a unit to truly fear in any fight, proper positioning still plays an important role in using her, as she is the most frequent victim of Grenadier's level-13 ability. Sometimes, she can simply get overwhelmed with the number of enemy melee units coming at her. It's also extremely common for Polina to face off the enemy Sniper as her last opponent, leading those encounters almost always down to luck as to who gets killed first.

It is most advisable to give Polina Range% equipment so she can avoid being gunned down by most dangerous unit abilities, the most notable being Builder Abby's machinegun, since she can out-range if her items has significant range% bonuses. The total range needed to make Polina not move horizontally at all is about 415 (60%+).

Item Sets

Because of her design as a single target eliminator that fights from extreme range, Sniper benefits most from the Hunter set, which will guarantee that she'll deal over 200% damage on average. All other ranged unit-oriented options are largely subpar, and it's recommended to make do with an epic-tier version of Hunter before a legendary one can be accessed.

Before she is maxed out, Tactical serves as the best option for Polina in context of Skirmish. However, once her special is unlocked, it becomes effectively useless, as 50% penetration proves to be more than enough. Instead, Lucky Guy is a better choice, since it guarantees that Polina won't easily fall to grenades and opposing snipers and shooters.

Like the majority of ranged units, she benefits most from preparation time watches. She is also one of the few units for whom ranged damage books are significantly better than any other options. Polina can also get great use out of +% Ranged dmg. bonuses thanks to her high base ranged damage, making them more preferable than flat boosts. Cost reduction only matters for Polina inside of Skirmish, as it's crucial for composition of powerful teams. During regular missions, though, it's a negligible upside.

Skins and Synergies

Polina, along with her respective skins, is a part of several teams: Jailers, Military, Marines, and Mechanic.

In most of the above teams, Polina is one of the better options. She is an essential member for all tiers of Jailers and Military, due to being one of the more reliable units available, even if Jailer team powers don't help her by much. Additionally, one of her main benefits is that she's able to keep the 3/3 power's condition active for long periods of time, as she will likely stay behind while the powers themselves continue to function.

When it comes to skirmish, she is near-neccessary for all teams that are viable in the mode. She gives good support on the Mechanic team due to it lacking consistent ranged support outside of Policeman Diaz, and she synergizes especially well with Military's 3/3 and 5/5 powers.

Trivia

  • Polina's special ability has gone through the most changes out of any other units. When special abilities were introduced in update 2.9.2, her special would ignore all of the enemy's bullet resistance. It was later reduced to only 50% in 3.0.0, and then down to the current 40% in 3.6.3.
  • According to Sheriff Charlotte's deleted backstory:
    • Polina's surname is possibly Madrigal.
    • Charlotte is her aunt.
  • Sniper's name Polina is a reference to the female Russian sniper Polina Petrova in the game Call of Duty: Vanguard.
  • The Nomad Polina skin is very similar to an outfit Polina wore in a number of different ads released for the game, leading up to the update where the skin was added. The main differences being the hat (which was her normal Jailer's cap in the ads) and toolbelt with the tools. (which was missing in the ads)
