Boss is a large infected armed with an industrial crane hook and dressed in a pair of black pants. Metal rope is tightly tied all over his body and a few metal beams are pierced through his body. His stomach and arms are bloated and he has large sacks around his neck. While invulnerable, his eyes turn solid blue and emanates floating blue particles around his body. Boss serves as the final boss of location 2.

Overview

Boss is a special enemy that, respectively, serves as the boss of stage 2. It has a relatively high amount of health for an early-game enemy, and uses a crane swing attack that deals extreme damage. This attack's range covers the entire battlefield, and can harm both units and zombies, dealing enough damage to instakill them under normal conditions. Aside from hurting entities, the swing also deals damage to the bus and barricade, albeit miniscule.

Boss has an attack sequence comprised of 4 phases that cycle until it gets defeated. The cycle is as follows:

  1. Becomes invulnerable, and stands still for 3 to 10 seconds;
  2. Performs a crane hook attack, becoming vulnerable right after initiating it;
  3. Stands still for 3 to 10 seconds while being vulnerable;
  4. Performs the crane swing again. Right after finishing it, Boss becomes invulnerable, and moves forward for a short distance.

Boss' invulnerability grants it true immunity to all existing damage types, with none of resistances-ignoring tools being able to penetrate it. Normally, Boss is fully immune to fire damage and knockback.

Trivia

  • Boss is technically the only enemy that can damage the barricade without the presence of marauders to cause them to turn around and move the other way as his omnidirectional strike hits everything.
  • Currently, the only way to survive Boss' attack is through use of shield points or the effect of Builder item set.
  • In a Dead Ahead: Quarantine trailer, Boss' attacks dealt 6 damage to the bus and the barricade instead of 5.
