Lester
Lester is a surviving white-collar worker armed with a double-barreled shotgun and dressed in an orange-red puffy jacket, white collared shirt, brown sweater, brown gloves, black pants, and a brown plaid wool cap.
He can be acquired during the Christmas Event by opening a Christmas case with an extremely low chance of obtaining him.
Overview
Lester is a Shotgunner. He is fragile and moves slowly, but fires his gun swiftly. His courage cost and preparation time are quite low for a ranged unit.
Lester uses a break action shotgun that fires 5 pellets in a cone at moderate speed, and has 2 rounds. If approached suddenly or without ammo, he does a quick melee attack. Lester's ranged criticals have a special property: if he scores a critical hit while having 2 shells loaded, he will fire both barrels at once, effectively launching 10 pellets, and getting forced to reload.
Lester has no perks. Some time after dying, he turns into a Tipsy.
Special Ability
Lester's special ability locks his double shot chance at 50%. Contrary to the description, Lester's double shot does not gain knockback or slowing effect.
This ability provides an opportunity to greatly improve Lester's performance by turning him into a cheap source of burst damage. While it can act as a double edged sword in some scenarios, courtesy of forcing Lester to reload more often, it easily compensates for that with sheer offensive power, as long as Lester's crit. damage is properly buffed.
Gameplay
Main Campaign
Lester, being unlocked through the Christmas Event at a very low chance, is generally not useful for progression unless players get lucky and secure him early. This is especially true given the existence of Farmer, who is avaliable very early and can be easily used for that purpose. Even disregarding Farmer, both Ranger and Policeman Diaz can offer a bit more as mid-game options. As such, Lester is somewhat limited in that regard and doesn't contribute meaningfully.
In terms of behavior, Lester is generally identical to Farmer, only having greater overall DPS due to his superior reload speed and rate of fire. Naturally, this relegates him to a supportive backline attacker, frail and reliant on tanky units to take the heat, but becomes extremely destructive when given the chance. While the use of melee units are often essential, Lester can still be paired together with other ranged units to form massive DPS stacks.
Skirmish
In League, Lester is only as good as Farmer. He's usable in the lower leagues but as players ascend through the ranks, he is easily phased out, as he is too fragile to contribute meaningfully, especially given the existence of Ranger, whose higher cost is easily compensated by his bullet resistance and greater health.
Item Sets
Like most shotgunners, Lester benefits most from Hunter and Military. The former provides the most versatile damage buff, meanwhile the latter accentuates crowd control. If you manage to acquire him early into game's progression, then Tactical is also valid, as it allows Lester to properly deal with such threats as Armored Skeleton, Lubber and Sapper.
Gentleman set is a special case, as it's a valid option only with Lester's SA unlocked. It can be used for builds that fully focus on double shots over regular attacks, limiting Lester's versatility but buffing his potential as a burst damager.
Lester greatly benefits from crit. chance books, but after unlocking his special ability they become redundant. Instead, a crit. damage book should be used, as his critical chance will be fixed at 50%. Lester benefits most from flat boosts rather percentages, with damage and health being the most important ones. Although he recharges moderately quickly, equipping him with a prep. time watch is the best option, as it accentuates his lowkey spammability.
Skins and Synergies

In Northerners, Lester is a very good option, either for support he provides or the Team Powers themselves. Obviously, he doesn't work well with the 5/5 Power, but he does greatly benefit from the 2/2 and 3/3, considering his critical hits are tied to his double shots. This allows him to easily mow down hordes of lesser enemies, and still perform decently against durable threats, all while keeping the 3/3 Power active for extended periods .
Trivia
- Lester's appearance, name, and description are based on Lester Nygaard from the first season of the TV series Fargo.
- Before update 2.8.2, Lester used to be the only unit with the "Exclusive" rarity level.
- Before update 2.0.3, Lester had a slightly different sprite. The most prominent change was the style of his haircut, which could be seen when he was killed.
- Before the Christmas Event was reworked in update 3.0.0, Lester was obtainable for free in the old version of said event by collecting a set amount of presents throughout all of the player's attempts.
- In 2017, the required amount was 1,000 presents, and in 2018, it was lowered to 500.
- Lester is the oldest-standing unit to be available as a reward from a seasonal event. This title used to belong to Berserker, who then got replaced by Turbo in the Halloween Event.
