Carlos is an illegal immigrant armed with a pair of Uzis and dressed in a red dress shirt underneath a light gray two-piece suit with a red handkerchief in his right breast pocket.

Rednecks logo.png Wild Carlos is Carlos' first exclusive skin. He is armed with a pair of submachine guns and dressed in a gray tank top underneath a blue jacket vest, dark blue pants, and a red bandana with a yellow polka-dot pattern.

Mechanic logo.png Wrench is Carlos' second exclusive skin. He is armed with a pair of Uzis and wears blue overalls with a gray t-shirt underneath, a toolbelt with various objects attached, gray goggles with black lenses on his forehead, gray gloves, and he has messy hair.

Psychos logo.png Beetle is Carlos' third exclusive skin. He is armed with a pair of Uzis and dressed a maroon shirt underneath in a stripped light-gray and gray two-piece suit, a mask, and long messy hair.

He can be unlocked for 4,500 coins after reaching player level 9.

Overview

Carlos is a Shooter. He has typical stats for his class, with the exception of large ammo capacity, and slightly below-average movement speed.

Carlos fires his UZIs at a fast pace in five-round bursts up to six times before performing a very slow reload. If approached suddenly or without ammo, he does a quick melee attack.

Carlos has a high-rate of fire perk, which is just a label of his design as a unit. Otherwise, he has no other abilities. Some time after dying, Carlos will turn into Tipsy.

Special Ability

Carlos' special ability grants him a 16% chance per shot to set enemies on fire. The debuff's damage will be equal to 30% of his agility, and won't fluctuate. The fire damage can stack each time he burns an enemy.

While this ability doesn't grant a major offensive buff to Carlos, it can be used to potentially prevent enemies like Undeads and Sergeants from rising, while still boosting Carlos' damage output against bullet resistant enemies, most notably Twins. Even then, its range of applications is still limited, making it a questionable investment unless you use Carlos very often.

Gameplay

Main Campaign

Carlos can be considered an upgraded version of Gunslinger. His weapons boast an even faster fire rate, granting him a much greater DPS. Carlos himself also has slightly better base stats compared to Gunslinger, for the same preparation time, and only slightly more expensive. However, he has an extremely slow reload speed as a consequence of dual-wielding as well as unable to hold his own in close quarters very well. Because of this, using him as the only ranged unit is heavily ill-advised. He works much better alongside other ranged units, preferably those with a quicker reload as they'll be able to cover for Carlos while he reloads. Sonya and Specops are both great choices in case achieving high damage output is preferred. The said setup can also minimize risks against Insectoids. If overall survivability is more preferred, Policeman Diaz is a go-to option as he can better handle oncoming threats.

Skirmish

In League, Carlos makes for a decent ranged unit thanks to his burst damage potential and low cost, being able to occasionally even take on bullet resistant units, which is compounded with his special ability unlocked. Stray shots may also hit backline ranged units, especially snipers.

However, just like any unit without resistance to bullets, Carlos is very vulnerable to returning enemy fire. His reload speed is also problematic as it hampers his ability to deliver any more damage beyond what a single magazine is worth. His main use comes against Military teams, where his ability will prevent Glenn from reviving and triggering the Military 3/3 ability.

Item Sets

Like any other shooter unit, Carlos benefits most from Hunter set, as it allows him to deal massive consistent damage. Military is a viable alternative in case you want to give him some crowd control capabilities. Tactical serves as the best option in context of mid-game, and can even see use during stage 7, as using this set on Carlos is one of the better ways to deal with Double-headed Zombies.

In context of Rednecks, Patriot acts as a gimmicky but nonetheless viable alternative to Hunter. Since Redneck is likely to be heavily spammed, this means that Carlos will have many opportunities to have his damage buffed, which can skyrocket to 100% with ease, should you get lucky with 2/2 power activations.

Being a ranged unit, a prep. time watch is the best option for Carlos. Among books, +% health is the safest bet. Crit. chance books are also viable if you get lucky with + crit. damage extra buffs. They are also superior to other options if Carlos is used in the Psychos team, as it allows him to interact with its 2/2 synergy. Like most HRoFs, Carlos benefits most from flat boosts rather than percentages.

Skins and Synergies

Carlos is not a part of any teams, but he has skins for the following teams: Rednecks, Mechanics, and Psychos.

Carlos proves to be a good option in all of his teams, simply because he is a generally viable unit. While he has no real synergy with powers of Rednecks and Mechanics, he still manages to greatly aid his comrades thanks to his high, continuous damage. Wrench also helps with keeping the 3/3 condition active, which proves to be especially strong for Mechanics with their ability to spawn free Turrets.

Beetle's situation in Psychos is even better, as he has more meaningful interactions with synergies from that team. If you manage to equip him with a sufficiently upgraded crit. chance book, he becomes one of the best generators of rage with the 2/2 power, being able to kickstart the spam of Saw and Berserker with less risk, as well as provide backup resources that can be used for summoning Austin. This also makes him a great option for the 3/3 team, as Beetle allows to triggers its powerful bonus more often.

Trivia

  • Carlos is the only male unit to not wear any sort of headgear like a cap, helmet, or mask, with his hair keeping his eyes hidden by a shadow.
    • Although the 2nd agent from the Agents unit technically fits this description as well, the unit always comes in a pair, meaning that the unit doesn't count as a whole since the other agent still wears a hat, and thus making Carlos the only proper unit with this cosmetic distinction (or lack thereof), with Clown Chopper being the only one with face paint on, as well as ex
    • The non-male units that possess this are Bunny Charlotte, Nurse Hirsch, Andrea, and Marebecca.
  • Before becoming a dual-wielder, Carlos had a different sprite.
  • Carlos and Dr. Kane are tied for both having the slowest reload speed in the game, at around ~2.7 seconds.
  • The Beetle skin is a reference to the character Beetlejuice from the franchise of the same name.
  • Carlos' Wrench skin is inspired by a post made by u/MicrowaveSon, a post that has since then, been deleted for unknown reasons.
  • Carlos dies with his eyes closed, just like Dr. Norman with his death animation.
