Lubber is an infected marauder armed with a spiked lead pipe and dressed in a flak jacket, brown t-shirt, black pants, and a black combat helmet. He has a tattoo on his arm, blood seeping from his mouth and his hand is green, displaying physical signs of prolonged infection exposure.

Overview

Lubber is the marauder counterpart of damager units. He possesses resistances to bullet damage and knockback.

As a human, he is able to move towards closest detected enemies, is susceptible to fear, and can navigate around fire pools. He will attack Generator and Turret when he is near them, but will ignore any other stationary items. Some time after dying, he turns into an Undead.

Strategy

Despite his bullet resistance and decent health, Lubber is not too difficult to fight against. A simple way to defeat him is to just send out several melee units at once such as Redneck or Mechanic, with the latter being preferred for his additional damage attack. It's preferable that melee units have a relatively good health pool since Lubber is capable of dealing decent damage. However, even a few fragile spam units can be enough in most cases. Using Red Barrel and manually detonating it is recommended not only to kill small groups of Lubbers but also to destroy their corpses with the fire pool if he happens to be close to it after it explodes, as Undead can be an annoying zombie to deal with. Ranged units are not recommended unless they somehow get around his bullet resistance, be it Flamethrower (deals only fire damage) or with help from the Tactical set items (ignores 50% bullet resistance).

Trivia

  • Lubber bears a strong resemblence to Bulletproof with their appearance and near-identical stats. It's possible that Lubber was intended to transform into this zombie, but the idea got scrapped for the sake of balance.
  • Although Lubber is formally introduced in mission 3 of location 3, he first appears in the cutscene of stage 2, mission 6, where he drives off in a car together with Rifleman.
  • Internally, Lubber is referred to as "Builder".
  • One of the promotional Christmas images features an odd design of lubber that lacks sleeves, has an extra tatoo, and wears a spiked helmet.
