Dark Skeleton is an infected dressed in black pants. It is a Skeleton with much darker skin. It has glowing blue eyes and emanates floating blue particles from its body.

Overview

Dark Skeleton is a regular zombie, with moderately low health for a mid-game enemy.

In missions taking place near graveyards, Dark Skeletons have an ability to raise from the ground instead of coming from the right side of the screen. This allows them to skip some distance before continuing towards the bus.

The spawn area of Dark Skeleton is equal to roughly the half of the battlefield. It can be damaged during its raising animation. Similar to normal enemy spawns, Skeletons will no longer raise from the ground after the mission countdown ends.

Strategy

Dark Skeletons are one of the most common stage 4 enemies, thanks to the fact that enemies who "degrade" into them after death are very common throughout the entirety of it. Dark Skeletons usually appear on levels that take place near graveyards. Large amounts of Dark Skeletons will rise endlessly from the ground until the barricade is destroyed or the horde that appears after the 37-second countdown has been beaten. Dark Skeletons tend to spawn close to the barricade but some can appear close to half of the battlefield from the bus. Necromancer, a zombie that summons Dark Skeleton in groups of three, can summon them even closer to it should he manage to reach past that point.

They are still vulnerable to attacks while they crawl out of the ground and have a slow attack speed but Dark Skeleton is notably more dangerous than its predecessor, having almost three times as much health and exactly three times its damage. While the strategy for killing it is relatively the same, it now requires having properly upgraded spam units so that they can consider Dark Skeleton as only an obstacle to them instead of a probable threat. It should be noted that there's no general strategy for dealing with Dark Skeletons that appear after the death of certain enemies. In most cases, units who were fighting enemies that can turn into Dark Skeletons will also be able to take out the degrades as well. The best way to deal with hordes of them is by using Red Barrel and/or Molotov.

Trivia

  • Although Dark Skeleton is formally introduced in Stage 4, they are technically fought as early as stage 2 in supply runs due to Sapper and Armored Skeleton.
  • Internally, Dark Skeleton is referred to as "Black Skeleton".
