Puffer is an infected dressed in black shorts with yellow stripes, brown shoes, and a black crop top. Its body is covered in yellow sacks and blisters that forces its head to point upwards constantly. The sacks pop on contact with anything.

Overview

Puffer is a runner type enemy. When it spawns, it charges towards the bus at high speed. Once charging Puffer makes contact with a unit or the bus, it hits them with a blow that's equal to double its regular melee damage. This attack counts as a critical, causes knockback, and applies poison on a struck target. After landing the blow, Puffer falls back, and then raises up and continues walking at normal speed.

Puffer will also pop if he takes melee damage while charging. If the successful strike was landed by a human unit, that unit won't get hurt by Puffer's blow.

Puffer possesses slight resistance to knockback.

Strategy

At its core, Puffer functions identically to Foreman, meaning that strategies that apply against that zombie will also work on Puffer. However, the poison damage it deals ends up causing a big difference, as it guarantees that your meat shielders won't live for longer than a few seconds. Trying to stop Puffer with either of the barrels might be a better idea, given that Puffer comes when you already have enough rage. Any unit with poison resistance can work as a living blockade, Firefighter is a notable choice because he's more accessible than other options. It's also worth bringing up Carol and Mechanic, as their special strikes are almost guaranteed to hit Puffer before its own attack connects with them, immediately causing the zombie to pop while the humans remain unharmed.

It's worth mentioning that Puffer has no bullet resistance. Depending on a mission's wave layout, it might be a good idea to whittle it down with shooters, preventing Puffer from poisoning any units in the first place.

Trivia

  • Internally, Puffer is referred to as "Poison Naked".
