Skeleton is an infected dressed in black shorts.

Overview

Skeleton is an enemy that typically appears in missions that take place near graveyards. In such missions, Skeletons have an ability to rise from the ground instead of coming from the right side of the screen. This allows them to skip some distance before continuing towards the bus. The spawn area for Skeletons can land anywhere between near the middle of the battlefield and around the barricade.

Strategy

Skeletons constantly rise out of the ground one after another. Because of their low stats however, Skeletons act more as obstacles for units who are trying to reach the barricade. Despite being able to cut on the travel time to reach the bus, they are slow both in speed and attacks. They are also vulnerable to attacks during its raising animation. Interestingly, Skeletons are still affected by knockback while they are emerging from the ground.

The most efficient way to clear the path is by constantly spamming melee units. Using ranged units is also a good idea, as they have a degree of area control, which is especially well demonstrated on shotgunners. Support items like Empty and Red Barrel are great against them too, since Skeletons' frequent spawning makes them an easy source of rage. Collecting 100 rage can allow Bill to use his LMG, potentially clearing all enemies on the field and cutting a path to the barricade.

Unlike normal enemy spawns, Skeletons will continue to rise out of the ground during the final wave of a mission, though Skeletons that spawn walking in do stop. After the last set of final wave zombies arrive, they will cease to rise.

Trivia

  • Its ability to suddenly burst from the ground is based on the popular trope of zombies rising from the grave, although its usage in modern zombie media has been stagnant. This ability would suggest that even corpses that have been buried cannot escape from the plague, causing them to reanimate and escape out of the ground where they were buried. The same would also be true for Dark Skeleton.
  • During a short period after update 4.1.0, Skeleton's damage stat was 10 times higher than it was supposed to be.
