Gentleman (Item Set)

Gentleman is an early-to-mid game item set. It consists of luxurious high-status items.

Items

Gentleman items are available in Epic and Legendary quality. The set includes the following items:

Set Bonus

When striking an enemy with a critical hit, the wearer of this set will get a 50% increase to all damage which lasts for 2 seconds. This applies to both melee and ranged crticials. Additional crits will reset the bonus duration back to 2 seconds.

The damage bonus is activated the instant a unit starts their critical attack animation. In case of ranged attacks, the bonus activates when a critical bullet / particle is spawned. This guarantees that all critical hits dealt by the user receive the 50% damage bonus.

Certain attacks such as Farmer's special ability and Mechanic's sledgehammer are considered critical hits and will also activate the set bonus.

Analysis

Because of how this set works, it acts as a direct upgrade to Hitman, which not only grants a greater guaranteed boost to criticals, but also allows units to deal massive damage afterwards. It essentially turns any of its wearers into burst damagers, with those who are already designed around criticals becoming overly effective. It's easily one of the best sets for melee units in the entire game, and if a different option is more preferable for someone, it's likely due to overspecialization or massive downsides that hinder the unit's favorable critical damage.

Gentleman's fairly high damage bonus enables potential for critical hit builds on ranged units. However, this is more of a gimmick strategy than a fully reliable option, because it requires equiping units with +% crit. chance books, since majority of them can't land criticals naturally. Aside from obvious inconsistency issue, this build is also risky due to forcing you to switch from more preferable +% health books.
